TERRIFIC Inn I and II Affordable Housing

TERRIFIC, Inc. serves as a community catalyst to strengthen the community and citizens by developing innovative housing programs, and fostering human dignity, self-worth, and self-sufficiency. TERRIFIC, Inc. meets the housing and psycho-social needs of homeless elderly persons it serves.

Help TERRIFIC, Inc. develop further housing for seniors. Your monetary support will provide life-sustaining apartments for numerous homeless seniors.

TERRIFIC INN I is a 14-unit (efficiency and one-bedroom) section 8 202 HUD subsidized housing complex for elderly and mildly disabled persons who reside in the District of Columbia. Applicants must be 62 years of age, or older (2) or developmental handicap confirmed by medical documentation. Income qualifications are determined based upon HUD Section 8-202 Housing Regulations. Through Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding, TERRIFIC Inns I and II provide subsidized housing (14 and 12 units each) and complimentary support services for seniors and families. The population of senior citizens who are homeless is expected to increase by at least 33% within the next ten years, doubling by the year 2050.

 

At least half of seniors have incomes below 200 % of poverty in D.C. based on the supplemental measure: D.C. (59%)

 

In D.C., about one in four seniors (26%) live in poverty under theSupplemental measure, compared to 16 % under the official measure.​ Over 500 low-income, ambulatory senior citizens, many who are living with chronic health problems, have had the opportunity to live in secure, clean, attractive apartments at the 14-unit TERRIFIC Inn. Seniors who live at TERRIFIC Inn have had the opportunity to participate in age appropriate activities and functions and receive support services based on their needs. Educational workshops are held regularly to assist tenants in receiving critical information via community resources that help with basic needs:

  • food delivery

  • nutrition

  • transportation

  • home health aides

  • insurance plans

  • prescription plans

  • legal services

  • energy plans to reduce utility bills

  • emergency preparedness

  • fire safety plans and more…
